Thought I'd share this in case you follow Pantone's Color of the Year. This year they chose two colors. Can't say I'm much impressed with one of the two colors. The "Illuminating" yellow is bright and cheerful. But I'm so tired of grays like their "Ultimate Gray." To me gray is depressing. Have seen so many people the last several years painting the walls of their rooms gray. Ugh! After a year like 2020, I want FUN color! Maybe it's just me . . . LOL!
I do find, however, MANY of the Pantone colors for Spring and Summer to be fun and cheerful! Here's a link to see the full collection:
Thank you Catherine for sharing these links.
ReplyDeleteYour welcome, Kathy
DeleteThanks for the info and links.
ReplyDeleteHave to say, after many years of checking out Pantone's color choices, I don't see much purpose in their "proclamations" anymore. For instance, I feel like I've seen 3/4 of these 2021 colors before, just with different names. lol.
That said, I love love love the cerulean—and that sweater in the photo. And that yellow is very pretty, however familiar it seems. And playing with colors is never less than fun.
I agree, Mary, but still enjoy seeing what they come up with. And "playing" is definitely fun.
DeleteJust want to add, I agree on the gray, Catherine. In the past few years, I've used gray clothing to cut back on black (which I wore almost all the time). And I like wearing gray.
ReplyDeleteBut gray as a room color? Eeeee ... so depressing! I don't see that as appealing at all. I like colors. And wallpaper that is cheery and/or crazy Victorian. :)
Have to admit that I do love wearing black but with pops of bright color. If gray comes anywhere near my skin, I look like death warmed over - LOL! It's such a "ugh" color to me.
DeleteOh, black will always be my number one. I love wearing black. I don't mind wearing gray for a break, though, as long as it's a deep gray and not a light gray (bleh).
DeleteI agree about gray rooms, so overdone. I'm a fan of ivory and tan colors, although my kitchen and master bath is light blue. I don't think I'd ever wear all yellow, like that model, seems like it would show dirt easily. Thanks for the link, Catherine.
ReplyDeleteIvory and a warm tan always look great in a room - great neutrals that you can pair with all sorts of contrasting/complimenting colors. I adore light blue on walls, as well as pale yellow and a light terracotta. One of my husband's cousins has a has a really nice house here in El Paso. It was always so cheerful to walk through the house with all the wonderful color. Then Kathy decide to jump on the gray bandwagon and most of the walls became various shades of gray. Even the cabinetry in her kitchen! What a depressing change.
DeleteMy kitchen cabinets are maple, been like that since we moved in over 20 years ago. I hate white cabinets, too hard to keep clean.
DeleteBet they are pretty, Connie. I love wood cabinets. We have a light pickled pine cabinets / drawers, here when we bought the house. Can't wait to switch them out for a richer wood, maybe a cherry wood.
DeleteLight blue sounds nice to me! Especially in a bathroom. :)
DeleteIt's funny, I am finishing up THAT 4-year old book project and was covering a section on Pantone colors. Saw the colors of the year yesterday, and wondered who in world chose those?? I'm with you; I am ready for bright, cheerful colors!
ReplyDeleteEspecially after the year we've had, Julie and Harry! I would have picked any color in the spring/summer trend, several of which I really like, over the gray. Treats to the Maybe Not So Clean Dog Now.
