Filled with the serenity of the sacred pink lotus, the one of a kind PEACEFUL POND handmade yoga earrings will quickly become favorites, both for their meaningful tranquility but also for their boho styling. The one of a kind earrings were created from artisan pink lotus flower charms, faceted pink Czech glass rondelles and hand hammered copper rods. The unique shield shaped charms look like they were cut from old cookie or tea tins. But they only mimic vintage tins since they were hand cut, filed and sanded from modern copper. A permanent metal transfer was then applied: a sacred pink lotus flower, green lily pads and rushes and a brown cattail against an ivory background. Because the charms were individually handmade, they are very similar, but, if you look closely, you can see a bit of a difference. The back of the charms are glowing copper which will gradually gain a patina over time. Since the charms are made from copper, the earrings are extremely lightweight to wear.
To allow the shield shaped lotus charms great movement when worn, I decided they needed to hang from rods. The rods were created (by me) from thick copper wire that was hammered flat and then textured, the ends rounded back. Two faceted Czech glass beads separate each end of the charms from the copper rods. The glass beads are a luscious translucent pink color swirled with opaque white glass, a perfect complement to the lotus flowers. The shields and pink glass beads were carefully wire wrapped to the rods with thin copper wire. A loop was formed, centered and wire wrapped to the rods. Sterling silver French hook earwires with a pink glass bead finishes the earrings perfectly. Symbolism of the lotus:
The padma (Nelumbo nucifera, the sacred lotus) is an aquatic plant, often growing in muddy water, that plays a central role in many religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, and, most recently, Baha’i. Because the lotus rises from muddy waters and blooms as a brilliantly pure, gorgeous flower, it is thought of as a symbol of human consciousness on the path to spiritual enlightenment. In Buddhism, the lotus is symbolic of a person’s path through life. The lotus seed stage represents the early stage of the karmic cycle. During the next stage, the bud travels through the muddy water emerging on the surface into light - this represents following the path of spirituality, leaving attachments behind. Finally when lotus blossoms, a person has become fully awakened and has achieved nirvana. The pink lotus is considered very sacred, representing the essence of the Buddha himself.
