The one of a kind earrings feature artisan made copper tribal face mask dangles, Tibetan eye agate and ruby red and turquoise Czech glass beads. The oh-so-fun mask charms were individually artisan created from pure copper. The design is a tribal face with open eyes and lines (or tattoos) on the cheeks. The charms have wonderful texture since the nose and mouth are raised against the background and the facial lines are etched. Torched at high heat to give a lustrous patina, the charms were then polished to bring out the detail and sealed. The tribal masks have a beautiful copper glow that the photos don’t do justice to. Since the charms were individually created, you can see that there are slight differences in each charm - guaranteed handmade! The back of the charms are fairly smooth and a bit convex.

*** The oldest masks that have been discovered approximately 9000 years ago - although, according to experts, masks were worn at least 30,000-40,000 years ago.   Masks were worn during celebrations, rituals, initiations, crop harvesting, war preparation, peace and troubled times for a variety of different reasons depending on the culture.  They are still worn today.  

The copper tribal masks were individually artisan handmade.  Tibetan eye agate add even more distinct tribal appeal.

Tibetan eye agate and Czech glass beads were stacked above the tribal mask faces. From ancient times, gemstones with an “eye” have been valued highly. They are believed to ward away the evil eye, change negative energy into positive and to balance life. As the name implies, these agate gemstone beads are from Tibet, adding even more ethnic vibes to the design. The gemstones are translucent when worn, positively glowing, each stone having two eyes for even more good luck. To add pops of color to the earrings, faceted ruby red Czech glass nuggets and turquoise Czech glass discs are found above the agate, separated from the gemstones by a copper disc spacer. Sterling silver French hook earwires with copper bead accents finish the motif perfectly.
