Rich red coral frangia adds texture, faceted black onyx at a bit of sparkle and sterling adds silver glow - all complement the butterfly pendant perfectly. *** What is dichroic glass? Dichroic glass (pronounced dye-crow-ick) is a type of glass that has amazing multi-colored, reflective properties, especially when viewed at different angles. Extreme color shifts can often be seen. NASA originally developed dichroic glass for use in satellite mirrors and it was also used on re-entry tiles of the Space Shuttles. Sheets of glass have a special coating applied to it that involves vaporizing various metal oxides into a fine dust with an electro-gun. The oxide dust settles on and coats hot glass inside an airless vacuum chamber. Needless to say, because of of the complex, expensive procedure, only a handful of companies produce dichroic glass for artists to use for their designs.

This bead is much prettier than I could capture in the photos. It is made using transparent clear glass with silver dichroic specks all other the bead and encased with a layer of clear. It has a beautiful sparkly shine, especially in the sunlight.

Rainbow Dichroic and Red Saturn Lampwork Earrings, Handmade Jewelry Gift

The unique "Saturn" handmade earrings feature artisan created red lampwork glass beads with a band of shimmering rainbow dichroic glass.

Even though they might look like it, the SATURN earrings weren’t discovered in deep space by the Hubble Telescope. They aren’t from a faraway galaxy but were handmade right here on planet Earth and are waiting for the perfect earthling to wear them! These one of a kind beauties feature artisan handmade lampwork glass beads in a Saturn shape and copper accents. The lampwork beads started out as individually created rich red glass rondelles. To add radiant mystery, a band of rainbow dichroic glass was added around the middle of each rondelle. The bands were then encased in clear glass for a 3-D effect. As you can see from the photos, the colors of the bands are brilliant and color shift depending on how the angle of the light hits the dichroic glass. The shimmering colors are the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Since each bead was individually artisan handmade, they are very similar but not exactly the same.

Red and copper is such a lovely color combination as these earrings surely show. Bright copper bead caps with a textured leafy design cap each end of the Saturn beads. Rustic copper discs and shiny copper bicones accent the top and bottom of each bead cap, adding even more texture. Sterling silver French hooks earwires with copper bicone bead accents finish the earrings perfectly. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the SATURN lampwork beads were created for the woman who adores wearing jewelry that no one else in the universe has!

Teal with encased silver dichroic handmade large hole lampwork glass slider bracelet charm bead

This is a beautiful dichroic lampwork glass bead. It has a large hole big enough to fit over my European style bracelet. This handmade bead is made with a base of transparent teal with silver dichroic layered on it. You can still see the gorgeous teal base. I added a layer of transparent clear to enhance the brilliance of the bead. It has a lot of glisten and sparkle that pops in the sunshine that the photos haven't been able to capture.

Each bead has been slipped onto my personal Pandora bracelet for fitting. My lampwork glass charm beads have about a 4.6 to 5mm hole so they will fit most chains, nylon, silk, ribbon, rubber and leather cords. Add them to a black leather necklace for a quick and easy way to expand your jewelry collection for instant new accessories and styles.

Handmade lampwork beads and glass charms created by me, Covergirlbeads glass artist, Charlotte Hayes. I make them one at a time in my studio, digitally kiln anneal them for strength and durability and clean them using a dremel. They are unique beads made in the USA and made in Texas.
